Tours is a university town that provides a variety of diplomas. The "François-Rabelais » University is a multidisciplinary institution that promotes a voluntary research development policy.

Multidisciplinary training

Tours hosts about 30,000 students every year (including 5,000 foreign students from 115 countries). The "François Rabelais" University grants over 5,500 diplomas every year in 50 different fields:. Arts and Humanities, Philology and Languages; Law, Economics and Social Sciences; Science and Technology; Medicine; Pharmacy... Higher education in Tours also includes an engineering school (Polytech), the University Institute of Technology (IUT), a Fine Arts School, a Business School (France Business School), IMT (pharmaceutical industry), Brassart School (graphic arts), etc.

Dynamic research

The university has 34 research facilities including 15 associated with major research bodies (INSERM, CNRS, CEA, INRA). These facilities are associated with 4 doctoral schools:

"Energy, Materials, Earth and Universe Science," "Mathematics, Computer Science, Theoretical Physics and System Engineering," "Health, Biology, Organic Chemistry," "Human and social sciences". Almost 120 doctoral thesis are submitted every year at the University of Tours.
